Single Server Lookups⚓︎

nslookup, for Windows, Unix, and Linux, use a single DNS server for querys. nslookup never uses more than one DNS server.

By default Linux and Unix nslookup, dig, drill, host, getent and any applications using the default stack will use the first listed server, and only after timeout will they try going down the list.

Solaris 10 will only use the first 3 DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf. If you have more than 3 DNS servers listed in Solaris 10, those over the 3rd item are not being used.
